When Apple celebrates a keynote, it is common for more details of its new devices once the presentation is complete. With ‘California Spring‘has not been the exception. A few hours after the event we learned, for example, that all iPhone 13 will offer dual eSIM support. Therefore, it will be possible to use two telephone numbers simultaneously without resorting to a physical SIM.

It should be mentioned, however, that the above does not mean that the SIM card slot is gone. In fact, it will still be possible to use the SIM + eSIM configuration. Another interesting point that collects MacRumors is that, at least in the United States, the iPhone 13 will not ship with physical SIM cards. Operators must provide everything necessary to offer their service through an eSIM.

The first time that Apple introduced dual SIM support in 2018 with the iPhone XS and XR. From that generation on, it became a common feature in later devices. However, at that time it was only possible to use two phone numbers with the physical SIM and the eSIM. Now, with the arrival of the iPhone 13, both lines can rely on the digital proposal.

Dual SIM became an ideal option for people looking for, for example, separate personal communication from work. A few years ago, to achieve this purpose there was no alternative but to carry two devices, each with its own telephone number. They are also very useful for people who often travel abroad constantly and prefer to avoid exchanging physical SIM cards based on their location.

Of course, it is also true that not all operators in the world have jumped on the eSIM train. In some regions, such as Latin America, the eSIM is far from being a standard. Despite the above, impulses such as Apple’s could cause more telecommunications companies to take eSIM adoption seriously.

Remember that the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will be available from September 24 in Spain, being possible to reserve them from next Friday. Mexico, meanwhile, must wait until October 8, although the pre-sale will begin on the first day of the same month.
